Blue Dart Q2 profit rises to Rs 17.66 cr

Blue Dart Express Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs 17.66 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2005, up from Rs 10.05 crore over the corresponding quarter ended September 30, 2004. The results for the current quarter are after reversal of certain provisions.
The air express, courier and logistics company posted a Rs 27.12 crore profit before tax during the quarter under review against Rs 15.9 crore. Income from operations was Rs 137.09 crore, up 18.31 per cent.
Mr Clyde Cooper, Managing Director, Blue Dart Express Ltd, said the company continued to upgrade and expand its infrastructure by adding new facilities in Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Meerut and Jaipur, and moving to a new warehouse facility in Delhi.
The company would augment its air capacity through Blue Dart Aviation by mid-2006.
An official statement quoting Mr Cooper said: "We believe that continued investments into our ground and air infrastructure is vital to support our customers' business and the growth in demand indicated in our sphere of operations."
He added that the company had faced some challenging situations during the last quarter, owing to the rain and floods in Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad and many parts of the Western region.
On the BSE, the share closed trading on Wednesday at Rs 459.90 against its previous close of Rs 472.55.
